PPV with Non-PPV Wheels

Hello Everyone,

I have a 2017 PPV. It's my personal vehicle, utilized with FD activity. It is set up as a slick-top vehicle, with no externior markings or lighting. The black PPV wheels are a bit too "police-ish" for my liking, and I'm looking to see what other options look like on the PPV.

If anyone has a PPV with any wheels other than the black steelies, let me see a picture!

You can any wheel made for a Tahoe, have the wheel company make sure you have the right offset. Your speedometer will be off, but go on Amazon and you can buy a recalibrator $137.00. You can use it only on ONE vehicle, but the thing I didnt know until I recalibrated it was, it use to hang up in passing gear and not shift properly, but once you use the device, which is easy to use, it corrects all the shift points, the speedometer, and all ECM settings affecting the tires, their sizes, gas mileage. It is frickin awesome.

Right, I get that - I'm just trying to see what they actually look like before I pull the trigger on buying any. That's a good tip on the re-calibrator, thank you!

If you do any kinda of offensive or defensive driving you are going to want a pursuit rated wheel. Aluminum wheels don't take the abuse a steel wheel will.

These are the wheels that come with what many Dealerships call the “admin package,” which is a PPV with a factory console and alloy wheels rather than the black ones.

These were the same admin package wheels that came on my 2016 PPV that I bought new. The dealership swapped out those aluminum alloy wheels with my current aftermarket wheels at my request. The pursuit rated Tahoes do come with aluminum wheels but it depends on the police package.

If they have pursuit rated Aluminum wheels that can take the abuse like a steel wheel can, I need the part number please. I would love to get rid of these steel wheels.

Steel Wheels bend...they are easier to replace and handle shock better than alloy wheels. Alloy wheels are stronger but you hit a sharp bump or slam into a curb the wrong way, and you'll crack them. Cracked wheels are much worse and more dangerous than bent ones. Usually you crack or brake a wheel your done
You bend a steel wheel ,you may have to slow down a little but your not out of the race, so to speak.

As you mentioned, both rims have their strengths & weaknesses. Many PPV Tahoes come with aluminum wheels and they are still pursuit rated. The steel rims will be more durable over the long run for sure. I'm guessing most of the people on this forum that own the PPV or SSV aren't driving under pursuit conditions.

I had a thread on this a while back.

I have a '15 PPV that my dealer reprogrammed for the factory 20" wheels. I bought an '18 in January and they were unable up do it for the '18. I bought a speedometer calibrator and it did the trick.
