Preferred Catch Can?

It works great. The quality is decent... especially for the price. It was slightly smaller than I expected but seems plenty adequate for the amount of oil I drain out.
Do you use the breather that comes with it or the plug for that hole? I’m thinking of buying one.

I know you asked Ken but I was just checking out his catch can since I'm shopping for one for my brother's '05 Sierra. I'll just toss in my answer since I'm sure his response would be about the same, anyway:
You can't use a breather on our engines- it'll be a huge vacuum leak causing rough idle and and SES light.

I'd add a stainless scrubber pad to the top of that mesh screen as extra filtration media. I did this to my catchcans.com one and I believe Ken did the same. For the price, I don't see how the multi-hundred-dollar ones could perform any better.

The plug... using the filter would give you a vacuum leak and allow unmetered air into the intake causing a lean condition and most likely a CEL.

That's funny... I didn't see your response until after I responded... lol

I put the scrubber in the bottom (dirty side) of my can and it works great.

I sealed the top and bottom of the can and all the fittings with black RTV... probably wasn't necessary but I figured it couldn't hurt anything.

Yeah that’s what I thought. I was curious why they came with one but then I saw they’re a universal product. I think I’ll get one for the 05 I just bought to see if it helps with oil consumption. It has 260k miles and I believe the valve seals are bad due to the smoke on startup after sitting but maybe a cc will help.

The addition of a catch can has cleaned up the rough idle I was getting in Drive, and after pulling the intake and cleaning out what seemed like a quart of oil from the upper intake from blow by I can see why it was rough. My 6.0 has 220k.

Yours may be valve seals or it may be oil vapor settling in the intake and being burned on startup from excessive blow by.

I use the same can and it works well. I did put a different drain fitting on it, a ball valve type. I also used teflon sealant on all the threads

I ordered one. I figured for $40 it’s worth a shot.
I mounted mine in front of the engine fuse box above the 2nd battery tray. I used an existing hole in the fender to mount the bracket with a small bolt and nut. I was able to get behind the panel to hold the nut via the larger cut-out hole near the smaller mounting hole.
