All of that sounds a lot like work. Get a couple offers via dealers, Carvana, etc, value the tax credit, value your time, and go from there. I’ve sold plenty of cars private party, but they were either cheap or desirable-spec sports cars. For commodities like a GM, throw the keys to the dealer, take your tax credit, and save yourself the head trauma of trying to sell to the general public on FB Marketplace.

Actually, Fakebook is worse for scams than Craigslist. The dealer needs to make a profit, but a lot of them get carried away. I've got a really nice Mazda will all the boxes checked for what people want in a car. Even the right color. If I sell it, the KBB price is around $13,000. One dealer offered me $5500 for it. It's paid for, comfortable and never gives me much trouble so all I do is spend money on maintenance. Unless someone gives me a really good offer, it's staying right here.

What model, year, and mileage? My daughter is looking for a replacement for her Ford fusion that got crunched up. PM me if it's easier.

Private Sell vs Dealership Trade-In

Hey Community. I am new to the private sell of a vehicle and know I will not get close to what I want out of my truck based off KBB (private v dealership).

I just turned 50k in miles on my ‘21 loaded HC (pictured) excellent condition and WELL maintained. I’m curious if others who’ve decided to go private instead of trade-in was it a $’s decision or was it something else? Also, is KBB pretty accurate? Has anyone done an outright sell to Carmax?

TIA!
I would sell it at the dealer. Less risk of litigation from an unhappy buyer.

I did carvana three years ago. I had an Audi that needed to be moved. The process is really simple, and you get a quote within 24 hours. I accepted it a few days later, and they sent a truck to pick it up. Super easy. I just would rather not be taking calls and emails about a car for private sale, having people visit the house and drive the car, deal with the actual transaction...

I also sold a motorcycle on Bring A Trailer. Really enjoyed that process. Bought one from there as well.

Problem I've found with private sale of a nice car is no one has the "cash" to actually buy it. At a dealer, it's easy to just use their financing department and get into a car. But listing it locally, you will get a dozen calls on, "do you finance" "can you hold it for a couple months while I get my money together" etc.
Now there's some business for Judge Marylin Milian. If I haven't seen that case atleast a half dozen times.

Private sale now-a-days?
Person comes to look one day and returns the next night and takes it off your hands for free. Better have good insurance.

We live in what we thought was a quiet suburban forest area but the creeps are reaching out from the cities. Our neighbor, who owns two adjacent homes, went into the one directly across the road from us for a few minutes to check on renovations, leaving his car running. A car drove up, someone jumped out, ran to the running car and drove off with it all in that few minutes. He gave chase with his other car from his next door house, through a couple towns until the police caught up.

Think how it could go having strangers invited to your property to check out what you have.

Based on one purchase, and a bunch of hearsay, I might recommend Carmax; if simple, neat, clean, and professional are more important to you than top dollar is.

One of my adult sons bought a 2-year old vehicle from Carmax.

He has said several times that for a used vehicle, he will only deal with Carmax in the future. He said he was treated very well, the vehicle was in perfect shape and Carmax did everything they said they would.

Autotrader private seller. Used them prior to being called TRED.

It sells your vehicle nationwide, does the dmv, title, brokers payment to you, offers financing & extended warranty.

Nicest thing is that their portal allows you to screen all the bs’rs out. Since the payment is brokered it keeps the riffraff out and contractually guarantees you’re paid in full.

My dealer matched carvana. I have used them and carmax for values with one usually better than other depending on day.
