Shit for 5 bills, I'd assume get a nice alt from DC power or Mechman

In all honesty, alternators aren't difficult to rebuild if you can find the parts. Bearings are generally press fit. Once in a blue moon you'll get some weird once you need a lathe to get out but those are few and far between. Source them, replace rotor, brushes, diodes, pulley, regulator. Inspect stator. Just need a soldering gun and some misc tools to split the case and get in there.

That's what I did..buy once, cry once.. I also had bad luck with Optima batteries. This can wear out an alternator..have the battery checked and don't be surprised if they say it has a bad cell..very happy with my agm Interstate battery.c3d169d8a88c51ef7f6a11641d608aa1.jpg

Just curious, what year yours is, and if you're in a corrosion climate. I'm coming over from a Silverado, but IIRC its the 04-05 or 05-06 that have an external voltage regulator that is attached at the battery cable. Just thinking that corrosion, or any cable problems might be causing it to work inefficiently,

Also there are two size alts for gen III/IV engines, small case and large case. They are both interchangeable, but the large case uses a 3/4" longer belt. The larger case will bolt up fine and work, BUT, (and somebody who knows better than me needs to respond).... I am not sure if the belt tensioner would compensate or not, or if that could cause more drag, and problems for your alt.. (if you might have the larger alt and smaller belt)

Nice alt and the big 3 done in what looks like 0 gauge. What else ya running?
Yeah it's all 0 gauge wire. Got a power hungry tower of JL amps with a 12w7. It's a 270a alternator so I can run everything pretty hard with no issues with lights dimming..c6279700156910a7dac86fd5db8b41c0.jpg

True that! Once the service contract ends, it’s back to real world.

Re: Optima batteries. Ran them exclusively in all four of our cars for over a decade. Any problem with them was an easy fix until Costco stopped carrying them. I purchased Optima’s $2h digital battery charger / restorer / maintainer. It’s worth it’s weight in gold for recovering stone cold depleted gel cell and AGM batteries. For the moment it full time use is maintaining the last yellow top in our Audi that’s rarely driven. The bags cycle on to maintain ride height. A few weeks w/o maintenance on the Optima kills it within a year.

As of today I only have one yellow top left. They’re more venerable to losing a cell after a full pull down than they used to be. Now all we use is the Bosch AGM batteries. With a 4 year over the counter replacement warranty from Pep Boys nationwide it’s the best solution for us.

We kill most of our batteries from heavy use on AV equipment in key off mode. When the optima charger won’t revive a dead battery, I found 5-10 min on a standard charger and then back to the optima charger brings it back from the grave.
