We were in need of a larger vehicle and were looking around for some used Tahoe's. I generally like to purchase a vehicle that's 2-3 years old, but couldn't pass this deal up. Fully loaded LTZ 4x4 w/ 66K miles, leather, nav, dvd, 4 heated seats, the whole nine yards for $19,750+tax out the door! I've been considering purchasing a warranty which Chevy offers a 3yr 36,000 for $3396. I know it's a case by case scenario, but what would y'all recommend? The carfax came back clean and the car was purchased from a local dealer. Most, if not all of the maintenance records were on the carfax which showed it was taken in every $3k for oil, filter, etc...

Cheers,

Jordan

Congrats!!!

I've never worried about a warranty on a used vehicle, but like you said it's up to you.

GM extended warranties like Major Guard are negotiable, and like the vehicle itself you can go to any Chevy dealership and have them compete for your business. This dealer is trying to rip you off at $3400.

At that price, skip the warranty. If you wanna fight for it, go ahead and negotiate...but I bought my 07 w/ 114k on it with no warranty, and I've been on two major road trips (Denver to Dallas/Ft Worth and back, and Denver to Minneapolis to Toledo and back) with no issues at all. Truck runs like a top and has 121k on the clock now - it's a FANTASTIC road trip vehicle. Smooth, comfortable, and gets decent mileage considering you're pushing a 4500lb SUV around with a 320hp V8 under the hood. I really don't think that extended warranties are worth the money if you know how to do your own preventative maintenance. I have a savings account with about $3k in it for emergencies should anything major on the truck take a shit, but I'm confidant that it's got plenty of good miles left in it before I need to worry.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the new purchase. Enjoy!

Thanks guys, this forum has a lot to offer!

Man, we are really digging this ride. It is super comfy and drives so smooth for a 6 year old vehicle. I can't imagine what a 2014 has to offer!
I'm like you fuzz, we have put $3K in an interest drawing account just for vehicle repairs. I'm religious about P.M. so we shouldn’t have any problems... Fingers crossed!

One complaint I have is the int door handles are peeling. I've read a bunch of threads on this topic and even found the TSB GM put out. My VIN falls just outside of the ones mentioned in the TSB. What can I do to try and get GM to cover this? They are peeling bad and the kiddo has already sliced her finger open on it!

TIA

Mine are peeling too. I'm not familiar with the TSB but being that ours are the same model year, we're probably both within the range, or close. Unfortunately a TSB is just a TSB...it doesn't obligate the dealership or GM to fix the problem like a recall does. I would go to the dealer though and tell them that your little one already cut her hand on the door, and see if they'd be willing to take care of it or at least share the cost. The worst they can say is no.

How old is the kiddo? I've got three, my boys LOVED the tahoe until mom came home with her shiny new minivan. They are totally captivated by it (*facepalm*). Daughter is just shy of three months now. Scary to know that the handles peel enough to become that sharp...I'll have to keep a close eye on it this weekend, we're taking another road trip for the holiday.
