Worked at discount tire in Seattle for awhile , every single wheel and hub got hit with a wire brush. Wheels can and do fly off if this doesn't happen.
Moved up to Alaska and went to 5 different tire shops that wouldn't swap rims on my tahoe because they didn't fit.
I said it's tight but trust me they do fit, just wire brush the hubs and wheels and they'll fit. Every shop looked at me like I was crazy, non of them heard of wire brushing anything and didn't want the responsibility of wire brushing the wheels for who knows what reason. Hell one shop didn't even own a wire brush
Another shop the owner came out and said those wheels won't fit "because what you have here is a chevy tahoe and them there are nissan wheels". Ok take my money somewhere else, mind you I was buying tires to so it wasn't just a swap, I was spending money.
So I went home took my own wheels off and wire brushed and cleaned everything. Drove to a 6th shop and told them to swap my f**king wheels.
Doesn't stop there.
As I'm waiting for my truck to be finished I peek a seek of the progress. All 4 tires balanced and mounted and the white lettering facing out, I didn't want that. Always go black out unless specifically asked by customer. So they break down and remount and rebalance the tires and wheels with black lettering out
They tried again but with a closer look now i noticed that they left the nissan tps monitors in the wheels(I dont have tps, if i did how would nissan tps work with gm?) So I have to tell them to break down the tires again and remove them (at this point watching and babysitting), shop owner acted like it was my fault, so he charges me for basic black rubber valve stems(probably mad cause I can do his job better than he can). I was just there too long and I didn't care and bought the stems at $3 a piece (should be free)
To top it off while they're torquing down my wheels I ask what's it set at. The technician says 85 lbs. I said nope, that might be good for a honda civic but I know it needs to be higher around 135ish (nearly double).
He argues with me till I grab my owners manual, after searching the pages we find torque specs at 140, my guess of 135 was pretty damn close compared to his 85 lol
Then he says "wow that's the first time I've ever seen that much ft-lbs", which means every truck that's gone through that shop besides mine is way way way under torqued.
Another good way to have a wheel fly off and kill someone.
I wish I had the whole thing on video.
