Hello - I'm new here. I have a question for you guys - I have a 2011 Escalade AWD Luxury with 25k miles on it vs. a brand new 2013 Tahoe LTZ 4x4 load sans sunroof - which vehicle should I purchase? The Tahoe is actually 3k more expensive - small family right now. Thanks for your input.

If mpg is a concern the Tahoe ... if fast is good then Esky.

If the Esky was a Premium it'd be a tougher choice, but I'd pick the Tahoe cause new and low miles. Plus the 13 LTZ has pretty much every option the Esky has, including ventilated heated seats and heated steering wheel ... although I'm surprised it doesn't have a sunroof. Does it have the roof mount DVD system?

I see you asked the same question on CF. :)

Just be mindful that that place is full of sillies who exaggerate their mpg. If you do all city driving with a AWD Esky you will be lucky to get 10. If you do a tank all highway you'll get about 17.5 at 75mph. I do a mix of both and my lifetime mpg is 14 according to OnStar. You can add about 1-2 mpg better if it's a 2WD, and you can subtract about the same if it's an ESV.

The leather is so much better in the Esky though. Plus it's much faster. I've had both and would go with the Esky if I were you.

Thanks for the reply - wow I didn't realize they only got 10mpg around town = I have a vette I'm trading in, so fast is good. The 6.2 is what is making this a tough decision. The Tahoe LTZ does not have a rear mounted DVD system - I like the look of the escalade and thought that after two years the price was decent, although you can't beat new - so this is tough for me.

If you are a current vette owner I vote to get the escalade. 13k is nothing to fret over.

When your family grows safety is always a #1 concern along with space. BUT fun to drive has to always be a factor. The 5.3 just didn't cut it for me. You will probably end up getting a tune and bbp can write you tune to save some money on gas when needed. Let's face it a couple mpg vs fun to drive. Fun always wins.

Test drive them both.

If you are used to speed than Esky for sure....plus as previously stated....a Blackbear tune will wake it up and get you a little better MPG(if you don't have your foot in it ;))

how much does the blackbear tune cost? Where do you get it? Does it void the warranty? and lastly -what are the benefits? How much more horse and what is the mpg return like?

I have the sister Denali. I went full synthetic all thru the machine, installed a CAI, new plugs, Taylor plug wires, and a Diablo tune and I almost crapped my pants the first time I stomped on it! On the MPG tune it still is better than stock. Got just short of 26 mpg on a long highway trip. Not too bad for a huge AWD box!!!!!

Bbt is 500 for the autocal. This gives you a handheld that can carry 3 tunes at a time. It will be custom made for you by them and the handheld will read codes as well. It won't void the warrantee unless you let them catch you with a custom tune in the truck. You can switch back to your stock tune in about 2 minutes with the handheld programmer.

Also I know you said its a 2013 and one would assume they got it right by now BUT you should google "5.3 oil consumption" and read about all the horror stories of the 5.3 motor with afm.
