Thanks, Rocket Man. Guess I've never really considered a wrap. Nor did I have any idea they were that inexpensive. Do they hold up well? I see them done on TV shows, but I always assumed that they were for the rich tuners who want to change their car scheme every couple of years. Food for thought.:hmm:
I heard they hold up good, but I’ve never had one done. Something for you to check into.

What can I expect to pay for a quality paint job on my '03 Yukon XL? The body condition is excellent with only a couple of dings and a few scratches to repair. No peeling or paint removal will be needed. About 1/2 of mine was repainted about 6 years ago, but the driver side, rear gate and roof are starting to show their age. Time to make it all fresh. Going back the factory Dark Spiral Gray color. This is my forever ride so I don't want a Maaco quickie.
$800-1200 for a factory repaint with clear and small dings

Yeah, well I'm not sure what prices are like in your area, but I'm not sure even Maaco will touch a full sized SUV (mine's an XL) for even $1200. This isn't a rat rod so I'm looking for something near the original "new car" quality. When I was considering doing it myself, I priced out just the materials at around $550. That's two quarts of primer, a gallon of base, gallon of clear, reducer, etc. That doesn't even cover the sandpaper, compound, filler, masking and paper. Unless someone is moonlighting and stealing all of the sundries from their employer, I can't see how in can be done anywhere near that price. I just ordered a quart of basecoat for my new front bumper and that was $70. I had Maaco paint my '66 Mustang back in the 80s when we had two babies and no money. I realized later than they didn't really even sand the car. They spot sanded and used a bonding agent and sprayed it. Back then they wouldn't even get factory color matches. You just had to order something from their standard color palette. Haven't ever been to one since, so I'm not sure how they do it now.

A side note on this quality paint thread discussion and some good points here.

Working on quotes for fixing the dents on the passenger side of my NNBS when it was hit this summer.

$1700-$2200 for just the side. No parts to replace, just remove and replace door handles, door moldings and maybe mirror and front and rear fenders plus the usual prep, etc....

Visiting 3rd shop this week as the first 2 have different ideas on how they want to paint the three stage paint.

Hopefully the hot rod shop will make that decision easier.
