My 1996 Chevy Tahoe is hard to start. I've started a couple thread on here and it has been suggested the fuel injector poppet assembly and/or fuel pressure regulator is faulty. The fuel pump, fuel filter, battery, alternator, serpentine belt, idler, belt tensioner, plugs, cap, rotor button, plug wires, and coil. If there's something else I should look at before these two things I'm all ears. Also if it helps the truck runs rich. Let me know what I should replace, the best cheapest place to get it, and directions on the best way to swap it out. Thanks

Please define hard to start.

Like when cold or hot? Cranks slow or normal?
How do you know it's running rich? BLACK smoke out the tailpipe?

Faint black smoke, when I say hard to start I mean it takes 3-4 seconds of turning over before it finally lights off

The code I got was random misfire. Short of the distributor itself everything including the ignition coil has been replaced. Once I knew for sure the new ignition coil made no difference I took it off and returned it.

When I swapped the cap and rotor I checked the distributor and it didn't seem to have an excessive amount of play or anything that would be alarming

Mine ended up being the FPR. Started right up after being turned off . If it sat for 15-10 minutes it would take a 5-10 seconds to start. If it sat over night it would start right up (i guess the fuel that leaked down evaporated by then?). Hope this helps.

take a look at your injectors. start it up and stare at em closely to see how they are flowing. crank the throttle up slowly to WOT and continue watching to make sure you dont have an injector issue. and if one of them is lookin bad, swap your solenoids and make sure its actually the injector and not the solenoid. BWD makes a complete throttle body rebuild kit or a FPR rebuild kit for a lot cheaper than buying a new one. with a little throttle body cleaner and a small wire brush youll have it all cleaned up again and save a little money.
IF thats your problem.
