The NP242 has 2wd, 4wd full time (awd), 4wd HI, 4wd Lo and Neutral.
I am not 100% on what it had, but if the selector was manual and had those 5 positions, then it was a 242. I know a few of the Durangos around that time period, 99-01 IIRC, came with it. If it did not have the 242 or an electrically shifted variant (I forget the number), but still had an AWD mode, then it is probable that it functioned similar to the system in our GMs.
There are a ton of different transfer cases from NP ( New Process) and BW (Borg-Warner) that came in many different configurations and ratings. Chrysler seems to have a preference for the NP units while GM seems to have developed a preference for the BW units.
