Kinda new here, transferring from LS1tech. Anyways just got a 01 LS Tahoe 4x4 and will eventually be towing. Problem is it has no Hitch and I can only assume no tow package? The hitch isn't a big deal, I can install that part on my own; but what I'm not sure about is what exactly the tow package from the dealer consists of, or if there even is anything other than the hitch to install. For example are there different springs involved, info on tranny cooler, etc.

I don't want to just bolt up a trailer hitch and haul away, only to achieve epic failure.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

crawl under truck, look on I think drivers side, down by spare tire. There should be a wire loom with the two hook up, minus the actual hook up rear bumper attachment.
Hooking one up, with the kit up front (brake controller) isnt that big of a deal. I did mine and it didnt have tow package as well, but most come equipped with the stuff right there.

so all it is the hitch and wire harness(forgot to mention that in OP)? I thought I heard someone say there's a transmission cooler, or different one with Tow Package; maybe i heard it from a dumbass, who knows.

Thanks for the quick reply Blueflamed, what kit upfront are you talking about?

If I'm not mistaken, my tow package included the hitch, harness and adapter, dual piston rear calipers, trans cooler, and 3.73 gears.

yeah the tow package is more than just the hitch and harness. it includes a cooler and other things JK mentioned. i also think the non tow package trucks dont have the tow/haul button on the shifter, but i'm not sure. maybe you should check that as well??

My Tahoe doesn't have the Towing package either, but I do have the Tow/Haul button on the shifter. Tuned w/BB now, but a Tow/Haul button none the less. Oddly enough though, I do have tow hooks on the front. I'm not sure what gears I have in the rear, off hand. I'll have to track it down again and let you know.

Thanks all for the input

I've got the tow/haul button on my shifter, as well as 4.10 gears from factory. Wondering how much a dealer would charge to install trans cooler, harness, and adapter...

Ferris, I think most GM SUV's in 00-06 came with hooks, almost definitely with 4x4; in fact the only ones I've ever seen without hooks have been in an accident before. Besides you're not going to be pulling something long distance in reverse chained to your tow hooks.

Also, the first sticky in General Discussion where you can input your VIN and it will tell you everything installed on your truck at the factory.

I'm sporting a 4x2 w/out the package. Hadn't looked to deep into which 'hoe's came with tow hooks on the front, but me and another member or two were talking about it last weekend. I don't think its to unusual for other vehicles to include tow hooks with a Tow package.

I hit the VIN thread a while back, I'm just to lazy right now to get off the couch and dig up the info on the rear tonight.

Hope you can get the work done cheap.
