So I am looking into doing some exhaust work. Currently the truck is stock (as far as I know).

My setup is a true 2" dual exhaust from the headers down until a common muffler (which is gynormous) with a single 3" outlet behind the passenger rear tire.

Is this the normal factory setup?

I would think that going dual muffler from here is easy and saves a few bucks. Granted a larger Dia would do a little better, but it's not to shabby either.

IMHO, stock, that exhaust is ample. Spend that money elsewhere, have a custom tune done?

stock would be manifolds to catalytic converters to dual in/single out muffler to the tip. if you have headers and no cats, someone has already altered it in some way probably. I think the rule of thumb for these trucks is to have a diameter of no more than 2.5" tubing. But I'm sure 3" wouldn't hurt. Its all about flow and timing.

Do a search on exhaust setups......there are tons of them. You'll get about 1 million ideas.

I referred stock, as stock motor.
Flow is good, but too much can kill low end torque. You need some back pressure.

Sorry, I should have been more specific.
It's dual from the headers to the Muffler. This includes dual Cat's as well.

I am going to be doing a BBTune soon, but I am going for the CAI first. As far as engine mods, this will be it. She sounds throaty already, I am just a little shocked that is was true dual all the way out to the muffler. I would have expected a more restrictive system with a single Cat, and some funky thin diameter muffler. I'll try to get some pics.

no, that sounds stock, if you mean 'headers' as stock exhaust manifolds.

Keep exhaust money for CAI and tune :)

^ I agree,go with a nice CAI system and a tune.

I myself have always used/went with PCMforless.com for any of my GM vehicle tunes.Great bang for the buck, cheap and simple, and Bryan Herter really knows his stuff.

Their is a order form right on their website.

tune is the best bang for the buck. Exhaust just makes it sound the way you want.

Yeah, I found out a long time ago, before I became the owner of my rig that it was basically a True Dual setup from the factory, running a into a single muffler with a single outlet. I was surprised too. The factory setup is pretty much up to par. If you want a more aggressive sound you could always swap the muffler for something better or even a dual muffler/dual pipe setup. Run some decent headers, and a decent muffler, with the right size pipes, get a cold air intake and a BBtune for all of it, and your truck should be a bit more of a beast so to speak.

Grimm, how much do you know about the BBtune in order for you to recommend it? Have you owned/ran a vehicle with a BBtune? Just wondering is all...

Also i noticed in your sig that you have no mods as of yet. Also in your "planed mods" you do not mention a BBtune in your list.
