I have went through a project to create a car dock audio cable for my AT&T Samsung Galaxy S2 (I777) phone to dock to my Alpine CDA-9855 HU AUX-in. Here is the album of the pictures during the build process.

Now according to the guys on XDA, that cable should be capable of powering the phone at "full charging capacity". Basically, the cable allows the phone to charge at 750mA. This should allow me to use WiFi (or WiFi tether), Bluetooth and GPS/Google Nav and still charge the phone. So I bought a 1A cigarette lighter adapter. Well, super long story not so short, the phone won't charge with all those functions happening. So I need to know if those lighters are capable of putting out 1A of power. If not, I need to find another solution. I'm not afraid of running new accessory power cables (assuming they can give me 1A+ of power), I just don't know where to start with that project. So my question is 2 fold. Can the Tahoe put out that much power on CL adapter or can I do it with a separate accessory power run?

Thanks for the help!

I had the same problem with my Samsung Galaxy II 7" tab.

You have to find a cigarette lighter adapter with a high amp usb, something like 2.5 amps. The auto stores have them. Either that or take your regular cig light adapter apart, and short out the two center pins on the female USB adapter with a drop of solder, which will trick the phone into thinking it is a high amp adapter, and will allow charging.

Let me know if you need more help on this. I have researched this problem more than I wanted too.

Unfortunately, this is not an issue of a cigarette lighter not putting out the correct amperage. This is a fault of the SGH-I777 (AT&T's version of the GalaxyS2) and apparently, the i9100 as well.

Here is the video proof. Pretty ridiculous. That's why I switched to a Galaxy Nexus. I'm working on building a car dock for that. This is the thread I'm following on that. I've already purchased the Fiio D3 SPDIF/TOSLink to Analog RCA adapter. I'll have the local car audio shop install it next week.

Good luck to all with this issue. This was a lesson to me. I'll NEVER buy another carrier based smartphone. No way. It's Google Nexus devices for me from now on.

Sorry to keep you waiting so long...i just saw your post. I found a high amp female cig lighter adapter at the local NAPA auto store. I don't remember the brand, but it was clearly marked as a high amp. I wired it into the radio power wire. Works great.
