I buy 'em, and drive 'em.

I never was a person that could even remotely resemble a shade tree mechanic. Having had new cars most of my life, why fix anything when they are under factory warranty? So, if you will (anybody), please tell me what the throttle body is and what it does. Although it's not earth shattering news in large numbers, it does seem to be a problem in the 5.3L V-8 from what I have read here and there on the Internet.

I can't get it to totally hang up like my daughter says happened to her, but I'm still going to take it into the dealer soon and have them fix whatever is broken. I don't trust these kids at Autozone to hook up anything electrical to a $50,000 vehicle to pull service codes. Just isn't going to happen.

2/13/2012 UPDATE: with new question at bottom.....

At my expense, Chevrolet today replaced my entire throttle body assembly. You would not believe the difference in the way this Tahoe now drives. No more sluggishness, no more stuck open throttle (so far, knock on wood), a pleasure to drive.

I had always told my daughter that this Tahoe didn't drive as well as my Ford Excursion and that I could not get used to the way it drives. But this certainly changed this morning with the new part being put on.

Would have been much nicer if they had covered this part under warranty, but I feel better about an 18 year old daughter driving it now. It had boiled down to a matter of money vs safety, and safety won.

If and when I buy my new Suburban soon, I will make my best deal, then refuse to to buy it unless they knock off another $386.04. It's that simple.

I retained the old throttle body and it is pretty well gummed up and a burnt brown color inside. What would cause this burnt brown color on the inside?

That burnt brown color I bet is related to our oil consumption problem.

Our PCV systems are pulling a tad more than the normal vapor they should pull, and running it through the intake. That vapor is coating the inside of the TB, manifold, everything. Mine has a slight stumble at times at idle that I attribute to this.

Exactly why I asked if you had cleaned the throttle body. If you clean it and reinstall it I'm willing to bet it'll function the way it should.

Well, true. Worst case scenario, I have an extra now if anybody should need one in the future. :)

Probably correct. It has the burnt oil look to it, exactly.
