I alternate between driving two 2023 Suburban HC's, one with 6.2L and other with 3.0 Duramax and both travel the identical weekly route's to the store and doctor's office. No expressway driving.

at a little above 1,200 miles, the 6.2L lifetime trip 2 odo reads 16mpg
at a little above 600 miles, the 3.0 livetime trip 2 odo reads 24mpg

2008 Denali 6.2L: 17-19 mpg highway at 70-75 mph on 87. 14.5 - 15.5 mpg on a 50/50 blend of E85 and 87 (approx octane of 93-95). Best achieved was mountain driving on 87 octane and yielded 20-21 (probably due to lower engine pumping loss with high throttle input and coasting down the other side)

2017 Denali 6.2L: Best road trip mpg with range Device 23 mpg on 87. Typical average in winter on 87 mixed driving is 16.5-17.5. Summer average is 17.5-19. Typical road trip mpg doing 75-ish is about 19-21.

I've tried a blend of E85 on the 2017 as well and have gotten mixed results, one tank as 19 mpg highway, while others were more in the 16-17 mpg zone. The motor likes it for sure, but not as much as the 2008 6.2L does. I'll sacrifice some mpg to have a happier engine and not pay the obsurd price difference of premium no ethanol.......math doesn't lie. Plus, it smells better at the tail pipe.

I'm trying to figure out the difference between the 2 V8s when it comes to gas usage.

Can you guys throw your numbers over the fence?

What engine and what do you get on highway, city, combined?

Try to get a better picture. Thx
2023 Yukon SLT with 5.3, my best mpg is 24.8 and my worst is 11.2 my average is around 15-16.

Having a 6.2 myself i got some results to share...

Best: 25 ish
worst: 14.5
average: 15.8

the average is related to 90% city driving. Best was a road trip, highway in Canada, 60mph

RST lifetime 16.5. Best on the Highway 23, best city 14.9. If I can use cruise at 65 on flat land, I’m guessing I could beat 25.

2022 Z71 with the 5.3, I'd say 75-80% of my driving is running around in town and I average 11-13mpg in town. On a longer highway drive I might manage 18 or so, I've seen 26 on the instant readout but going downhill so that hardly counts. We live in Southern California so traffic is a constant and there's six of us so big girl is usually hauling us and four kids plus everyone's junk and occasionally the dog up and down hills, through whatever construction and rush hour traffic we run into. So I'm jealous/skeptical of some of the 22+ mpg claims I see, but I count anything over 15 as a win in an off-road capable vehicle that's 7,000lbs+ loaded dealing with our traffic and such.

I can tell you with certainty I’ve gotten 22 avg over 200 mile road trip, but:
1) there was zero wind
2) I did it all on 2 lane highways here in super flat Minnesota
3) I was alone in the rig and only had a small carry on size suitcase with me
4). I drove the whole works at around 60-65 MPH, and there was basically no traffic (no passing, no stop and go, etc)
5) Ambient temp was about 60F

My lifetime mixed MPG in my XL Denali is 16.7 over 13k miles so far.

You won’t get close to that w/ a lot of stop/go city driving or trying to deal with Cali metro area traffic (I often travel to SoCal and the Bay area and have to deal with that and traffic here in MN is nothing like CA.

So, it’s not dubious that some of us could get in the 20’s, but it has to be in specific conditions.

I occasionally make the 160ish round trip up to my parents in the desert and back, my round trip between the gradual climb up and the gentle cruise/coasting back down makes me acutely aware that California traffic and topography make it damn near impossible to get decent gas mileage no matter what you drive.

Conditions must be just right for folks to be getting mpgs in the 20's cause I've owned a 5.3 equipped suburban or yukon xl for 10 years and don't think I've ever seen the mpg break 20. Our '11 was basically 14-15 avg and the '21 is 17.5 so that's a win in my book

I've averaged 18.36 mpg over my last 2 tanks, 6.2L AT4, hand calculated. My best is 21.8mpg over 50 miles, as per display, on flat rural roads travelling in the 50 - 55mph range.
