I never had a manual in mine so I couldn't check to see what it says about this. It doesn't really matter tho because mine is an old ass 94 but did you have the switch 4x4 yet or is that in the 2000s - up only?

Really? I always tow in D but I always have a 4x4 when towing

I used to tow the trailer empty in D, loaded in 3 before this trip too. But now I'm monitoring stuff on the truck and I was really surprised about the temp difference. I'm gonna stay on 3 for any towing from now on.

Aaaahh ok. I do think it has something to do with the way of shifting to 4x4 because I have a 02 blazer with the push button 4x4 and I don't like it at all and I've tried to youse it but it doesn't feel different when driving but eh I just pop the 16 footer in the back and go and it tows that ***** like no ones business:) I will stop using it for towing Once my 350 sets in on the hoe. I just like the manual way of pulling the lever myself

I see that in a 99 manual but something is wrong with that and your suggestions.

Gzes has A 94 model and that does not apply to him. Read page 2.23 of manual I posted above. Also in third gear the PCM commands lock-up when going faster the 75mph.

Also what you just said contradicts what 99yuk has posted about temperature.

Am I missing something?

I dont know, but almost all heat comes from the TC. In OD you will get more TC lock and unlock because in OD it is under more of a load than in D. Most dont notice whether their TC is locked or not, so if the amount of load is great enough to prevent the TC from locking but not enough to downshift, you end up towing NOT LOCKED UP which makes the temps go through the roof and you burn up your trans.
He may have had enough load to prevent the TC from going into lockup while in OD but not in D.

I worked at a transmission shop for 4 years if it makes any difference.

That sounds like what happened.

Good enough credentials for me...:)

EDIT: BTW, what does 246 mean in your sig? I've got everything else figured out but that...
