Ive had my 2004 chevy tahoe around 3 years now, and just recently (i think recently, i cant say for sure how long its been going on) i noticed that the tail lights (brake lights) were BLINKING as my wife was driving off and i just happened to be outside to see it. Almost as if the hazard lights were on. So I tested a few things and they dont blink when reversing, but in park they blink and then sometimes while driving they blink. What the hell could this be?

My 2000 was doing this - turned out to be a defective multi-function switch (turn signal switch that also has the cruise control etc...). Once it was changed out all was fine. The tech said he took it apart and the problem was a weak contact spring in the circuit that would also control the hazards.

Thank you SO much, that helps a lot because coincidentally I've been having problems with the cruise control (turns on sometimes, other times it doesnt). So I can only imagine thats gotta be the problem.

UPDATE

It was the brake light switch oddly enough... thankfully i got some time and ordered one just to see if it would fix the problem before i spent the money on the multi-function switch and it did. Apparently if there is ANY problem whatsoever with the brake lights the cruise control will NOT work. Interesting safety feature. Hope this helps someone one day.

makes sense as if the brake light switch is activated it disables cruise. so with that switch not working correctly cruise will never really enable.

If your brake lights don't work and the cruise doesn't work its is the brake light switch.. The switch is not expensive. If you have brake pedals that move (adjustable)... its a major job and will require quite a bit of effort to get to the switch. If your brake pedals are not movable easy job.. Good luck
