Little update here, was going to bleed brakes yesterday but the weather has been telling me otherwise, finally got a break in the rain and went out in the sopping wet to get some bleeding done with my father!

Was able to get a solid fluid stream out of all 4 corners! The fronts had like 2 air bubbles total in the whole line, so almost no bleeding was required on those. The rear right one fought me a bit this time though(the first one I started with, did the typical order), there was some stuck air. So I said screw it, let me get all of the air out of the other lines and hoses, and I'll come back to it. The rest of them gave me no problem at all, and at the end I went back to the rear right, and bled for about another minute or two, and just like the others, solid fluid stream!

Pedal feels FIRM, very good. For peace of mind and because that one side did fight me a bit, I will still run an autobleed on it, for the small chance that there is a little air in the ABS pump, but I'm happy and this front end rebuild with brakes and all new hoses(and now a new hard line) is finally coming to a close!

suburban had her maiden voyage today! Brakes feel great. Drove across my side streets. It was REALLY sketchy, the tires were skidding and it was all over the place, steering loose. Hopefully the skidding wasn't a brake sticking(it did stop later)Came back home and the alignment was soooo off enough to where I thought I'd have to have it towed to the alignment shop, usually I dont eyeball it that bad. Both tires were extremely towed out, so I brought the tie rods in a LOT(and they're still slightly towed out, that's how bad they were). The camber and caster is still terrible, but I brought it for another ride down my side streets and it's good enough to get to the alignment shop. No more skidding or weird noises. Hopefully the alignment is causing that skidding. All the wheels spin freely, so I don't think there's a brake sticking?

Make sure to get a copy of the before and after alignment settings printout. Post pics of that here, please.

Well it's going for alignment today, took for a drive to get gas. Still very sketchy riding right now, when turning the wheel navigating the road, the left front tire screeches bad. I jacked the truck up again and confirmed the wheel spins with no weird noise and theres no play in anything I installed. Must just be terrible alignment causing the tires to hit the ground in a weird way.

Well the screeching was indeed the tires because it was so far out of alignment. She’s all set and drives pretty well now! The abs light comes on and off for some reason, I’ll have to pull a code on that once it happens again.

I’ve attached a picture of the before and after measurements. Let me know how they did.IMG_4388.jpeg

So I’m just going to show this video here. Honestly when driving the brakes feel fine and they stop as expected, but just noticing when I’m pumping on the pedal it doesn’t seem to be the most convincing pedal, kind of sinks far down too. It has been like this since I bought the truck. Is it just because it’s vacuum boosted? My old 05 Tahoe I sold had hydroboost and the brakes were definitely firmer on that than this suburban. Not sure if the ABS auto bleed wasn’t done when the previous owner replaced the hard lines or what, just some thoughts.

Here’s a video I took showing pedal travel etc:

You said it. You went from hydro-boost brakes to vacuum assist brakes. Way different feel. Plus, you are pushing down on a vacuum assist that would actually be stopping the truck when the pedal is higher and you are pushing further in the video. If you had air, you could pump them up. You do not pump them up and get a firmer pedal.

I had an 02 tahoe with vacuum brakes and now my 05 Z71 has hydro-boost. Way better brakes.

Yeah it doesn’t pump at all, has constant pressure. And yeah everything you said is true. Probably no air in the system, will just leave alone for now, it stops fine when driving.

Think I may have a hydroboost swap coming soon :) main parts are the booster itself(will probably buy at junkyard, I’ve heard bad things about reman) and a power steering pump with an extra port for the hydroboost right? Plus the lines of course.
