Just happened. Was cursing around 70mph and boom! So while waiting for the tow I figured I would start looking for a good replacement.

Truck is a 2007 Yukon 4wd. 3:73 gears. I am not sure I want a direct replacement. What good upgrade from stock replacement do you guys recommend? I do drive on the beach often if that means anything. Any help would be awesome.

Thanks!

Start buy using a good gear set along with quality bearings. unless you want a locker, I would look into a good torque sensing diff, no clutches all gears. ARB maybe. or just get upgraded clutches and spiders. you wont really know until you get it pulled apart to see what happened. you could have just blown the teeth off the pinion or had a bearing explode.

I went to the Site and found the parts needed. I am torn between the yukon dura grip http://www.ringpinion.com/b2c/ProductDetails.aspx?ProdID=1563&Product=YDGGM8.5-3-30-1&Brand=Yukon_Dura_Grip&ShowAA=True&Year=2007&Model=Yukon%201500%201/2%20Ton&DriveType=Rear%20Diff%20-%204WD&DiffId=217&Source=DiffWizard

and the Tru Trac http://www.ringpinion.com/b2c/ProductDetails.aspx?ProdID=5629&Product=TT_913A481&Brand=Eaton_Posi&ShowAA=True&Year=2007&Model=Yukon%201500%201/2%20Ton&DriveType=Rear%20Diff%20-%204WD&DiffId=217&Source=DiffWizard

I found the over haul kit and the ring and pinion set.

The shop has looked at it and they say to repair it they recommend getting a new housing. They have not removed the axles yet but say I should replace everything.

What do you guys think? I can get the axles also but a new housing? Is that common?

This is my first go-round with a bad rear. I need help.

what I know of rear differentials is finding a good set of gears is not nearly as important as finding the right shop that has a lot of experience and knows how to set them properly.

I am finding that out. First shop wanted $3000 to replace the entire rear axle because they aren't equipped to rebuild them.

Uh, I think not. After some checking around I found a shop who has plenty of experience with rear diffs. It will be towed there in the morning b

100% agreed. The shop has got to get the backlash and all that other shit perfect or you'll be whining all the way down the road....and i dont mean you whining :)
