I had to put a new one in my 07 about a year ago. I just went with a rebuilt used one - complete housing. Wasnt looking to upgrade anything internally, so it was an easy 1 Hr swap. Paid $1500 for the rebuilt one, 15k miles later, no noise, no issues.

The first place wanted 2300 for the rebuild housing. Parts only. Install is extra.

I'm dropping mine off Tuesday for a rebuild and a True Trac.
I'm not going to say how much I'm paying :)

I've had two other true tracs and they performed flawlessly, got me out of some situations I would have otherwise not been able to get out of without them.

Just go buy a low mile unit out of a bone yard and do it yourself. Even if you have to replace the entire diff with a new one, parts are less than $800. A GOOD shop can have it set up in less than 2hrs. I'm so glad I'm blessed with skills to do 99% of my own work. You need to shop around. Or move to the west coast.

There is so much more money on the east coast and people are too busy to even raise a finger to work on there own vehicle. The shops back there know this and will charge as much as the customers are willing to pay. There are very few Honest shops anymore that actually give a shit about their customers. There just looking for a payday.
If someone who isn't concerned about the money and does it because it's what he/she enjoys could go back east and charge so much less than others and make people happy.

I have the skills to do it but I have a bad back injury from work that I am dealing with and it is 8* outside with no garage to work on it. I am at the mercy of a shop right now.

I hear that, the cold part anyway. I have minor repairs to do and the cold is a *****. Swapped a light bulb yesterday, kind of a pain on these NBS Yuks (I suspect Eskys too). Too many bolts to undo. I was 20 outside, so not crazy cold, but cold enough.

Also, waiting to repair the rear defroster tab that popped off. The conductive epoxy doesn't set up under 50 degrees. Hmm, too cold for that, but that's when you need your rear defrost.

I am over winter!

Just got a call from the second shop that does rear diffs.

With all repairs, not rebuilt, all new beefier parts, Yukon ring and pinion, Eaton TruTrac, axles $2150 out the door. I would rather pay that for New better parts than $3000 for rebuilt same as stock parts. Also comes with a 3 year/36k mile warranty.

Splines got chewed up. The manager said," I have never seen one explode like yours did" He is saving the parts for me to see when I pick up the truck. I guess locking up @ 70 was a bit too much for the splines.:pp:

I didn't read that it locked up, but that would explain it. Fun ride, imagine if it was a Denali with AWD and that happened. The damage wouldn't have stopped at the rear diff.
