sorry if this is in the wrong section I didn’t know where else to put it. I have a scraping noise almost like a completely worn brake pad scraping on the rotor but that’s not the case. It’s been happening for a while, doesn’t get better or worse. Pads are good and so are rotors. I took off the parking brake shoes just so see but it didn’t work. The clips on the caliper bracket aren’t touching the rotor so I’ve basically hit a dead end on what to do. Today I jacked up the rear to check for play in the bearings but that’s also good but I did notice if I grabbed the tire at 9 and 3 and pulled/pushed it in and out there was some movement not enough to see it with your eyes but you can hear it, more movement than the other side. Right now that’s the only thing I have found that could be causing the noise. If you guys need to hear the sound I can post a video, just wondering if anyone else has had this problem or knows what is wrong so I can get rid of one of its many issues.

I would suspect the backing plate or the parking shoes scraping, before assuming its the rear end. Rear ends dont usually make scraping noises, they either whine,howl,whir and more at certain speed ranges. the in and out play from the rear tires is normal, they are held by C clips and they vary in tolerance, a video would be nice if possible.

Definitely not parking shoes since they aren’t even on right now. I’ll try to get a video up soon.
Still could be the rotor scraping on the backing plate. Is the rotor warped slightly or the backing plate bent a little? Also pull the rotor and clean the back side of it and the hub mating surface so they don't have any bumps or anything that could misalign the rotor.

I forgot to mention in the op that I checked the backing plate, I’ll definitely try cleaning the rotor and mating surface. Should also mention the noise is louder while making left turns and almost nonexistent around right turns.

Gets louder the longer you drive and goes with my speed. Also gets louder when I hit the brakes which would make you think brake pads but they are fine. That’s why I’m lost with what to do.

I still don't think its your rear end, as they get worse the more you drive them, are you sure its coming from the back and not from somewhere else, tcase could be another suspect too and more likely to have scraping sounds. A video of the noise would be nice.
Actually a better way would be to just put your rear end on jack stands and chuck the front wheels, then have someone give it gas until you start hearing the scraping sound, then try to determine where its coming from and go from there, and be careful because things will be moving, and spinning things and humans dont like each other when they mix.

Erik’s advice is solid it’ll let you really pin it down. Video that or at a minimum drive slowly and do another video. It really does sound like a backing plate or loose rotor or caliper but video gives a better idea.

I had some chrome flaking off the inside of one of my rims that also made a scraping sound similar to a lightly dragging pad on the rotor. By chance have you inspected the insides of your wheels?
