How many miles do ya'll recommend changing the rear shocks? Mine ar starting to squeak when I go over speed bumps and I know they need to be changed, is this hard to do? And brand does everyone recommend to be used for repalcements? By the way my Tahoe ia a 2008 LT with non auto ride with about 54,000 miles. Thanks.

Hello...first off there are probably 100 threads on shocks in this forum, use the search and look through them. Second, an 08' with 54K needing shocks sounds unlikely......shocks aren't generally "squeaky" even when they are old they just don't work well. It may be something else squeaking near your rear end like the spring isolators or maybe the shock bolts(spray some WD-40 on them). I mean, it's of course possible but most likely another part of your suspension is squeaking so just lube up all of the moving parts on your rear end and see if that stops it. If you want to upgrade your shocks Bilstiens are the shock of choice for most. Good luck.

I use to work with engineers in the Delphi plant that built GM shocks and they are built to last over 100k. They are pretty good quality shocks, I agree with the Bilstien statement also.

Well First off I did search and did not find anything for stock suspension mostly for lowered or lifted suspension that's why I came on here to ask for suggestions. Secondly it feels like it is the shocks so has anyone ever replaced there factory shocks with around 54K miles? Mine is just stock. Thanks.

I would see if could pin point the squeek before i spent money on shocks, if i didnt need them. Maybe have some friends bounce (push) whatever its called on the truck making it move and see if you can find it. But on here, everyone loves bilsteins, ive ordered myself some, but havent got them yet. For the price i couldnt beat em. But i think that is what is on yours now isnt it? I dont know, just though they were.

Pull your shocks off one at a time and drive it to eliminate your squeak. It will bounce like hell at that wheel but it will keep your from spending money that don’t need to be spent.

Yep, the factories should last well past 54K....it may be other suspension parts....just a thought. Hate to see you replace them, and still have the dreaded squeak.
