Sounds like something's broke inside and occasionally getting caught. May be parking brake lining broke. Wife made me come and switch vehicles with her. I only heard it once. Drove forward and backwards with and without brake and parking brake applied. Beat it like I stole it home for about 3 miles and never heard it again. Can someone refresh my memory on how the self adjusting parking brake works on these? (05 Yukon)

The lining on mine came loose and it made a rubbing noise as it slide inside the rear rotor. Never really squawked the tires except one time when it bound enough to lock the govloc on a turn.

This sounds like a piece of metal caught inside the drum. Really loud chatter then click, click, then nothing. Then click, click, click, loud chatter. Then nothing again! Gotta wait a few days for rain to pass then I'll tear it apart. Gotta do it in the driveway.

Well I couldn't stand it and the ground dried up in between rains so I pulled it apart. That's exactly what is is. The linings completely disintegrated from both shoes. Autozone tells me they have a set for $28.99 and then an optional two piece set.
So here's my questions:
1. Do I need a two piece set?
2. Is the clip shown in my photo the correct one?
3. Do I need the adjustment tool? Someone said just tighten them up to where they slightly drag.
4. Lastly, do they adjust/tighten every time you depress the parking brake pedal?

Does anyone know if I can install these without the resetting gauge?

Does the adjuster tighten the shoes every time the parking brake pedal is pressed? Can one pump it several times to tighten them too tight?

Well this should be good for a chuckle....I'm too old for this stuff! I was in the process of replacing the parking brake shoes and upgrading the hardware and while I was there did the disc pads too. In the process of lying on my side trying to get torque spec on the caliper bracket bolts something went "crunch, pop" under my pectoral area. It was a muffled sound and the pain is terrible. I believe it's like the third intercostal. The other side's brakes will have to wait! Dagnabit! Rakafratching....

Getting old is not for sissies. I feel your pain at 68 years old. I used to do all my own work but not any more. I don't mind getting up and down on the ground but then staying there for long periods for something major like a transmission removal or if I have to constantly get up and down, well screw that, not gonna do it.

Hell, I woke up this morning with a very stiff back. I had to do a muscle relaxer pill for the day. Hell, I can't even do a whole pill any more. I have to cut it in 1/4's to be able to function.

Right behind ya! Be 68 in July. Broke my back twice and have arthritis fused vertebrae in my neck. My knees are shot too. I live on more pain killers than any normal person should. Still wrench on the vehicles and the 2 Harleys as much as I can. Buy I really pay for it!

Climbing on and off my Harley is getting to be a chore sometimes as well and long periods in the seat as well.
