Just noticed this today... I can wirewheel/sand, but repainting will never look right without a pro. This is the only spot I've seen thus far.

Anything you do on the surface will be temporary unless you can get to the back side and clean things up.

Story of my life, I've had one wheelwell repaired twice, and they just come back, even after allegedly cutting out/replacing sheetmetal. Now the other side is starting to show signs of failure. Stupid road salt.

Im doing the wrong thing. I'm gonna sand down to bare metal and rust convert mine and then slap Z71 Style flares over it to hide it for the next couple years.

I can get to the backside easily by taking off the wheelwell liner, I would treat that too.

IIRC, the body shop told me this is an incredibly common issue, and it's due to the factory spot-welds failing internally with rust.

Where are you finding the fender flairs? I'd like to get some for my Yukon.

I bought mine off Ebay and had my buddy who works at a body shop paint them. I opt'd for the non textured smooth flares. Not a fan of the million bolt hole ones.
