It's simply because they have to specifically know the EXACT trim level and model of the vehicle including certain options before the computer will actually give them the list of parts for that vehicle. That's all it is.

If you go to the store and watch them they enter in the make and model of the vehicle, then that brings them to a page where they have to select engine size and/or trim level etc. After that it will give them the list of parts. You can't fault them for having to answer the questions that the computer system asks them.

I can't bash. I have run into a few like that at autozone but, also at Oriellys have had the same. Plus Local Autozone has this one guy who seems to be all over it. he knows alot and is very helpful with info (he drives a Chevy) so I guess that helps. Anyhow it like someone said earlier do your own research and know what your getting before you go in. Good luck.

I can't complain about Autozone right now.

Over the weekend I had a front wheel bearing go out on my 04 Denali. I was 500 miles from home and diagnosed the problem Saturday night.

After looking on line, the closest parts store I could find open on Sunday was an Autozone and they had 2 bearing assemblies in stock. I walked in with the part # and the clerk was able to help me determine the size socket I needed for the axle nut so I could purchase one of those too.

Of course I had my Dewalt 18 volt impact wrench with me and I was able to replace the assembly and get home.

So for the time being, Autozone is my friend.

I wouldnt trust autozone on two reasons

1) I called autozone and asked if they had a radiator for a 1972 VW Beetle
\

that makes YOU the dumbass doesn't it?

They do have radiators... aka OIL COOLERS.

Unfortunately, Autozone's have a bad rep for lack of knowledge and not giving a rats ass about their customers. I know this because I USED to buy there! SO I went to Oreillys since then. Now I WORK for O'Reilly Auto Parts, and we actually have training modules that EVERY team member has to complete before they can even go to the floor as a Parts Specialist. Now some members know about cars more than others, but at least Oreilly strives to have knowledgeable parts people. Another thing that Autozone DOES NOT have is a Customer Service line. Oreilly's is the only parts store to have this. Lets say you go in and want parts for a Ford 8N tractor or parts for a Peterbilt Semi, the parts guys can actually call a Tech line(ME) and get the part numbers so they can order the parts for the customer. Thats is what I do!! So next time you go to Oreilly's and the counter girl appears to be perplexed, tell her to call the Techline, and we will be happy to get whatever you need, if we carry it. Also, we have a BILINGUAL tech line to assist our Spanish Speaking Customers!!!!

A few years ago, I was 300 miles from home and my car overheated, I pulled into an AutoZone, purchased a new thermostat and I changed it in the parking lot. Whether they ask stupid questions or not, most of the time you can get the parts you need, while you are there.

okay okay okay.....

This went the wrong way i meant this thread for a few people to get a laugh a few did......most didn't. Some people prefer autoparts stores over others there are different employees at each store, the autozone by my house is not a very good store for advice or getting the correct parts. So i apologize for getting everybody all pissed off.
