When I press the "recirculate" button so that I don't get air from outside, I can still smell the air from outside.

I passed thru some grass fire before. Way before the fire, I pressed the recirc button but the smoke still went in. Dealer said all tahoes are like this. Air from outside still goes in even if the recirc is pressed.

Is this true? How can I fix this?

if you have the air set at the windshield or your feet or both it will not recirculate. air will come from the outside.

This should be the only way to get that recirc light to even stay on. But it could also be a stuck door - I had this on my tahoe.

so....what was the stuck door? Mine just started doing this too and it's ticking me off. The recirc always made it freezing cold and I want that back. I tried to find a "door" and couldn't find anything. Can you give more advice on the location?

I believe the recirculate button just closes off "most" of the outside air flow allowing the truck to cool already cooled air and keep the inside colder. By hitting the recirculate button, your truck does not turn into an air tight submersible...

You will always be able to smell outside odors, no matter what you do.

other cars are "air-tight" sealed when you press the recirc, at least my FJ Cruiser and mits outlander are.

Is there a "door" behind the AC by the passenger side? How do I get to it?

It's grass fire season again. I need to shut this door tight !!!!

Interesting, I was under the impression that no car was really "air tight". There are even vents in the back that you cannot close.
