First order of business on my new (to me) 2007 Z71...remove the adesive overlayed woograin from the silver interior trim.

I'm not a big fan of the woodgrain look, and the silver matches my two tone interior better.

Has anyone ever removed one of these overlay kits? Two of the parts that surround the window switches and go down into the door handle are lifting. The adhesive everywhere else is pretty tough.

Any input?

Thanks,
Shawn

If it is aftermarket that someone has applied, I would think a soak in goo-gone or cut through would loosen the adhesive. Would be messy, but could be done.

I like Goo-Gone as a residue clean up, NOT an early-stage remover. I'd heat it up with a hair dryer, then slip some fishing line under there and saw/pull up on it (don't saw against the bottom piece).

Heat gun for sure. Then peel back. Get ready to burn your fingers like crazy. =)

Do the dumb-asses at GM not have a clue as to how unpopular the woodgrain look is???????? Nah, they're too stupid to read, apparently. Woodgrain overlay kits need to be banned, too. :Big Laugh:

I am not opposed to the woodgrain in these trucks. I think it's a good look, at least with the cashmere interior (not so much with the black interior). Plus, with the popularity of the Escalade (and its woodgrain trim), I don't think you can make the blanket statement that GM doesn't know how unpopular it is. I think they know that it IS popular -- just not popular on these forums where we like to modify our trucks.

We have to remember that WE are the minority on these forums. You can't cater to the minority (unless you want to go out of business in a hurry).

I can see where folks don't like the woodgrain. I'm ok with it, though.

The TOTM (Brandon's I think) has a sweet black trim kit on the dash. Is that stock or aftermarket? It looks awesome....

I've got woodgrain in the 08 I'm picking up tomorrow. It doesn't offend me but that black looks wayyyy better.

I too like the woodgrain with my cashmere interior. The cashmere is a warmer tone and has more of a luxury look. The warm color and look of the wood compliments the cashmere wheras the cooler metal look of the nickel looks out of place to me. I also changed out the steering wheel spokes to wood to match and compliment the rest of the wood.

We all need to consider that others may have different preferences and opinions and may also have different interiors in our vehicles.
