Need to remove the small trim panels at the back and the locking pillar trim panel in the front then pull out the bottom of the panel. Once that is done you should be able to lift the panel up and remove it.

Do you know if there is enough room behind there to put a .65 cubic ft sub box behind it?

Assuming you have rear AC, you'd have to remove the blower to accommodate a custom/fiberglassed box, but I don't see a problem fitting a box that size otherwise. I've read of someone on here running 12-15" subs (one on each side) without interfering with the cargo space (can still fit 48" drywall/plywood boards between the wheel wells).

If you don't mind cutting a little sheet metal, I would expect that you can open up some room in the rear section and cut some metal away and take advantage of the extra space out to the exterior wall.

Or even get a new panel from a junkyard. Build the box how you like, then trim the panel however needed. then merge the two together. You could probably tuck it in there pretty good.
