Replace transmission fluid?

For peace of min I'd just drop the pan and get on under her for the first time I bought from a family member that did every 3xxx miles oil and 30k trans by dealer so I didn't have to worry also got all records from dealer..

But if I didn't know I'd be under there now lol good luck with the new ride!!!!

if there's No service records, i would change all the fluid's (oil,tramission,front/rear axels,transfer case) and you would know all the fluid's are good . and put your mind to rest. good luck ?

The service interval can depend on the fluid used and the way the truck is used. For example, Amsoil's "Fuel Efficient" tranny fluid has a service interval of 50K miles under severe service conditions and 100K miles under normal service conditions.

I think I'm going to leave it alone for now. The service manual recommends replacing the fluid every 50k. ...........
So that begs the next question, are most going by the recommended 50k or the more common 30k trans fluid replacement interval?

If you have no idea when it was last replaced, I would change it. I replaced mine when I first bought my truck (at 52k miles) and then again at about 90k miles. I would also flush it and replace with the new Dexron 6 fluid, or the Amsoil fluid. Both are far superior to the Dexron 3. I flushed mine and went with the Dexron 6 fluid. Ok, ok - I'll drop the pan and replace the filter this week. As far as flushing the system, I hope I never get that ****.

That's what I'm thinking. At some point I'll probably just get a full service & Flush.

I change all the fluids at 50k intervals. Includeing the brake fluid. Dropping the pan and doing a filter change will only replace about 4 or so quarts of trans oil. The trans holds between 9-11 quarts. I remember the exact amount, but its a lot. I want really change the trans oil, do a trans flush. It will back flush the filter and the lines. you would also be better off upgradeing to Dextron 6 IMO.

I once paid a service shop once to do a trans flush on a low mile vehicle I had just bought. After it was done I looked at the dipstick and there were a great many small black particles in the fluid. Never again, especially after hearing many horror stories caused by flushing.
