in another thread, the question was asked if just replacing the door speakers was worth while. The consensus was that it is. I did it and was happy with the results. I have upgraded the HU to an Alpine unit and would like to replace the stock subwoofer. Has anyone done this? If so what speaker did you use? I have an 04 Tahoe with Bose so the subwoofer is in the center console. Thanks for your thoughts...

I found out that there is a top Mount depth of 3.75", but what I don't know is how the bose speakers are wired, if they are svc 2ohm or a form of dvc (doubtful). If you end up finding out any more information or decide to guinea pig it, let me know the set up you go with.

Thanks John. I'll probably get into it next week. I'm kind of surprised no one has chimed in that has done this already. I'm not looking to blow out the windows but if I get as much of an improvement as I did with replacing the other speakers I'd be happy. Then I'd have enough $$ left over to get a BB tune......

No problem man. Usually takes a few days to get the answers you're looking for, I replaced all my doors, and I have a 10" sub in a Q-Logic Factory fit box under my 2nd row, I just figured by the condition of my other speakers considering they are 12yrs old, I'd want to replace the sub too. I just want to be able to squeeze a bit more upfront low end outta the console, even if it's not much, it would be a cleaner and/or crisper bass tone

The subs are 2 ohm DVC units if i recall correctly. There's a few decent AM options out there that will fit the height space although i don't know about circumference as I've yet to dig into my console. I would think any mods under the console won't matter anyway. I'm thinking though that unless your existing sub is DOA though, I'd just as soon leave it in for some (very) mid lows and instead add an actual box in the back or under a seat with a separate amp. You'll have better sound and better overall control of it. Not to mention that smile you had after the speaker swap... From what I've noticed with mine is that the quality may be OK but I have to push the limits of the remainder of the speakers to almost distortion just to get enough audible bass signal to the sub to be worthy anyway.

Hum, from what you guys have said, it sounds a little more involved then I thought. Ohms I understand, but what is this svc v. dvc comparison?
Update: I looked it up like I should have before posting the question and found the answer. Single v dual voice cones. That I understand as well as the wiring options......

If it works why not add a sub to the rear factory spot the 00-02 used? Can get MTX thunderstorms or a junk yard box out of a wrecked 2000-02

MTX = $$$$. If I could find a box from a 00-02 I would try that, but some reviews aren't so good on that mod.
