yeah a good running 5.3 will get that truck moving just fine I'd like to do a 5.3 swap in my '77 at some point as well.

Plus you can build a 5.3 out of the car easily. The heads already flow a lot. A good cam, some head work. Or toss on a set of aftermarket heads that are already revalved and flowed. These In combination with a tune and you have boom approaching 400hp.
You can simplify things with the MSD ignition and a carb setup and make lots of power also.

Also may I suggest you go with the 4l80e or the 6l90e
whats the difference between the 4l60e and the 4l80e?
The 4l80e has a slightly larger case, different gearing, stronger internals than a 4l60e. The 4l60e is an electronically controlled 700R4 in essence, basically the same internal parts and gear ratios. The 4l80e was put behind the 6.0L LQ4 in HD trucks, 8.1L vortec motors in 2500 Suburbans and Yukon XLs, diesel motors in some GM vans among other applications.
I hope this helps.
no problems so far, if you prep it right you won't have any problems. when painting chrome is all about the prep good sanding and and a good self etching primerHow has the paint held up? My painter doesn't want to do it cuz he says the paint will flake off.
