So…. Debating on grinding down the calipers vs finding rims that fit. I don’t know what these rims are that came on the turd…



They’re twenty inch. Which I thought would work, since some 17” rims work with this brake upgrade. But I reckon the backwards curve of the spokes is what’s rubbing.

If the rim don’t fit, you must acquit. I mean, acquire- something that fits.

What do you guys think? Should I grind the ridge on the new calipers, add spacers, or steal some stock rims that will clear?

I’m not a huge fan of those rims either- but they’re paid for. I have a Facebook marketplace ad out now for a trade deal. We’ll see if I get any bites. I kinda want stock rims- but these would clear with a small amount of grinding on the calipers, or a thin spacer (I’m not a fan of spacers, but I don’t think 1/4” would be a detriment).

OR Vietvet- one of these days I’m gonna make a post with all of my “alternative vocabulary” terms to see which ones pass and which don’t. Maybe then I can use this forum to its full potential!

If you do not want to grind on the calipers, could you "safely" grind a little at the wheel or want to wait and see if a trade could happen?

When you want to alert a member about something in a thread post, just put a @ in front of their screen name and they will get an alert.

@Nooj I have these stock 17's on my 03, and I also have the newer brake upgrade. No rubbing, everything fits fine.

I’ve been looking through the brake upgrade thread to see which wheels are proven to fit, but with 60-something pages, it’s easy to miss some info. Especially since I’m looking at it like a nudey magazine- flipping through, looking for the pictures.

I'm not positive if those rims would work. Are they 17's? Supposedly 17's and up will work with no issues. Are the tires good tread wise? Or almost bald? I got my rims from a Sierra pickup and painted them black. Then bought some PPV center caps, for that look. You could also use the plastic center caps for that ssv look. Either will fit.

The rims offered in trade are 17’s. I’m not sure about the tires… they’re probably maypops, like the ones in the turd now. I had a set of all terrain take-offs lined up, for my 20’s, from a dude at work.

I taint never had 20’s, I also taint never had wheels that ugly! But dern, they was free, and I had newish tires lined up. I’m going to mull this over some more. Let the mulling continue!
