Rockauto part number for flywheel?

2007 Denali with 6.2L and 200K miles

It often does not start from the first try, the flywheel spins and sometimes 2-3 cranks are necessary to get it in the right position. I hear this spinning/grinding noise, then it starts immediately.
I had a mechanic look at it and determine it was the flywheel.
What is the part number on rockauto? I can't find it.

But is it a transmission issue? Is the flywheel the correct part?

How much work is it to replace it?

To change the flexplate the transmission has to come out. If the truck is a 4x4 or AWD, the transfer case too.

While you are in there, it's a good time to replace the rear cover and rear main seal on the engine and maybe even the torque converter with a new one with fresh clutch lining material.

@randeez Calling Randy to get his suggestion on performance flex plates should that interest you. Much stronger than stock.

TCI i have used a few of (for different transmissions/converters) they are in the $200 range iirc.
much thicker than the stamped oem ones
whether its really needed is up to you but an extra 100bux to never have to worry about it again would be how id look at it.
flex plates do crack/loose teeth off the starter ring, its a bit of work to swap it out tho as /\ James described

I see. I had a small indepedent shop quote me $600 for the flywheel swap. Is that in the ballpark or what?
I am not sure if it included the part itself.

Even worth doing on this 2007 with 200K miles?
It sometimes doesn't start on the 1st try and the starter spins until it gets in the right position. Really should be fixed if I will keep it for a few years.

Flywheel is usually referred to for manual trans.

Flex plate bolts to torque converter on auto trans like your Denali.

Here’s a heads up on labor involving parts in that area. If your tech is offering $600 for the flex plate, here’s the labor he’ll charge for other stuff in there if done individually…


Labor for …
Rear main seal: $6h
200k tran service: $6h
Torque Conv: $6h
Pan gasket seal: $6h
Xfer case mounts: $6h
Exh Man Gask: $6h
Motor mounts: $6h

07-14 Denali are hot items right now. They’re dealership darlings that can be detailed for $1.5k and fetch almost $30k here in Cali & elsewhere because they’re proving to be 400k+ platforms.

Do you know if your trans has ever been serviced or replaced? ALL those $600 services mentioned above will basically be covered for cost of parts only If done at same time trans is out.

Your flex plate teeth must be chipped which is unusual because the starter teeth that turn it are made of a softer metal to prevent that.

Be 150% sure that your flex plate is damaged / chipped and it’s NOT your stater’s drive teeth.

what does "$6h" mean?
I am not 100% sure it's the flex plate that's damaged, could very well be the starter. Because the problem started after the starter swap.

It’s always a good idea to check what you did last when the problem started.
