interesting on the RTV

& odd too, as i know quite a few mechanics & they all use RTV for pans & diff covers.

It might be ok to use just a tiny bit between the gasket and pan. Obviously I didn’t. I do not remember but he sent pics of it. I have no reason to doubt what he’s telling me, and from what I’ve read lately, it’s definitely something you don’t want to do with an automatic trans. Oil pan, yes at the places it’s supposed to go. Diff covers, it depends on the gasket. But if you read up on transmissions it’s definitely something you don’t want to do. There’s small passages where the fluid drains back into the pan from the servos and if they’re blocked the servos don’t release right. It can cause all sorts of problems.

Great news today. The trans is done and shipping today. But the best news is Performabuilt covered it under warranty even though it is way past the 2 years AND it was my fault. Ryan said since it was an honest mistake by me they covered it. And he said he thought the instructions warned about silicone on the pan gasket but he’s going to look at them and if it’s not there he is going to include it. He said if the line pressure is set to stock ( still waiting on @BlackBearPerf to verify this 100%) and there’s no blockage on the pan rail passages this trans will definitely do the job. He said he fished several pieces of silicone out of the servo release/ valve body which caused the band to fight the other components resulting in extreme stress on the other hard parts as evidenced by the output shaft. Once again I can’t say enough about Performabuilt, from the great communication to the speed of their warranty work to the great warranty, period. They really went above and beyond for me. I can see why they’re considered one of the best.

That is really great news! Covered out of warranty, fixed, and shipping out today. Couldn’t ask for anything more! Looking forward to the pics of you reinstalling it back in the beast next week

Yes but of course there’s always a slowdown. And just like last time it’s the converter. UPS had an issue “beyond their control” and it just arrived at FTI in Florida yesterday so now I wait for them to do the cut and clean and ship it back.
