Rust belt Tahoe floor - what to do here?

So I was peeling back the vinyl floor on my 2014 PPV and found some rust on the driver's floor.



I can deal with the rust but there's some kind of sound deadening material (the grey ridged stuff) that looks to be a problem. The rust has spread on the floor under this material and messes up my plan to use rust convertor.

The obvious thing is to pry/scrape it all off but I'd appreciate any other ideas. Thanks.

Goodness, looks like she spent too much time underwater and got sunk! Needle gun.

There was a hole in the vinyl and 6 or 7 winters worth of slushy salty boots. There's less rust on the underside of the floor. The needle gun looks amazing, never heard of one before.

Dang, I don't miss that chit. I just got done spraying the rear frame and body area of mine where I saw some spotty surface rust before I installed the spare.

Then it's safe to say that you definitely weren't in the Navy! LOL I hope she cleans up nice and leaves enough material to seal it up for good.

Looks like the jute soaked up all of the salty crap in the winter and it made it's way through the grey stuff on the floor. Long story short, I scraped off most of the grey stuff and found the whole driver's floor rusted out and full of holes. I just covered it back up and will deal with it later.

Seems like a bit of a design flaw that the grey stuff is not waterproof. It also sticks like crazy and has pulled off big chunks of rust/floor.
