Rust Question For Brakes

Will I damage the brakes if I take a wire brush and wd-40 to this?

Wire brush no problems but do me a favor and never spray any lubricant near your brakes tho....

Nothing is making contact with it. Like Galante said, just make sure to watch where you spray (good advice for any facet of life). I do hate the way that looks on mine, too.

Id wire brush and follow up with some brake clean a few times then high heat black spray paint, even if you get some on the rotor surface a short trip will get rid of it pdq

Cleans up so it looks like this. I used some Rust O Leum matte black this time around. I previously used some Rust O Leum high heat gloss black. Keeps it looking good behind the wheels.

Yes, you will damage it. Wd40 will mess up your pads. It's not a rust remover, it's a protectant (and a ****** one at that IMO). It'll wash/spin off in fast order anyway. If you're referencing that wikihow article that talked about doing this, I have a major beef with it. I'm of the opinion the writer should be charged with manslaughter.

Don't **** with it. That little bit of rust is normal and nothing to be concerned about. Only time it becomes a concern is if you have old brakes in a salted area and you see rust flakes coming off your rotors.

So it's said: You can purchase coated parts. The top of the line epoxy ones from napa hold up well, as do Meyle rotors.
