Yeah I know, but it might just be a matter of perspective - the scan tool for my audi was $200 and I was't expecting the GM equivalent to be almost double the price.

Those are not GM equivalents. Our vehicles were made to be worked on with the Tech-2, the current crop of adapters with phone apps cannot see and do what the Tech-2 does. The VX DIAG NANO types with their GDS software can replicate the Tech-2, they may or may not be as comfortable to work with depending on whether or not you use a tablet or laptop. I think those are unwieldly while driving and monitoring data, even though their displays may be considered better. Do you live near Mike on here in Colorado Springs?

I'm in Ft Collins, which is about 2 hrs north of the Springs, so not really.

Based on the Amazon reviews of the VX Diag, I think I'll pass on that. 1/3 of the reviews are 5 stars, 1/3 say the software is useless/corrupted, and 1/3 are somewhere in the middle.

It sounds like the consensus is to get the Tech 2. Is the one below a reasonable option?

A few weeks ago prices had fallen below $300. That fellow is priced about $100 more than getting one from Hong Kong. There's a couple of used ones for three hundred or less you might consider. The thing to look for is that it comes with the 33.004 software and all of the adapters and cables and such and the CanDi module which our GMT900s use to communicate with.

Some guys have bought from this website and prices seem more reasonable: https://www.obd2tool.com/goods-1568...+(Works+for+GMSAABOPELSUZUKIISUZUHolden).html

You absolutely can find a Tech 2 out there for $350 or less. I got mine on AliExpress for $334.30, WITH a case included.

that's because people don't know how to use a computer, the software is not made to work with a tablet but you can make it work by putting the tablet in pc mode, there are various revisions of the software all over the internet some work and some do not. I had to do a little trial and error to get mine working, it was working fine then I went and messed with it and it stopped working, then I had to delete it and the temp files and re-install and finally got it working again. chinacardiags also sells a hard drive that has a bunch of there software on it for $119 then you just have to put in a compatible lenovo laptop and you will have oodles of diagnostic software. they also sell just the gds2/tech2win hard drive for $60 same thing you just slap it in one of there listed compatible laptops. the listed laptops run about $100 used on ebay, however then you do still need a vxnano or mdi2

Find a scanner that specifically lists SRS functions and double check that your vehicle is covered before buying it. We had a failure report on a front impact sensor. They are near the radiator. The scanner report was specific and accurate and a quick order to Rock Auto solved it. Sorry I can't recall the name of the scanner but it was in the $200 range.

I purchased the scanner below from Ebay a few days ago and it arrived today. The seller confirmed it can read SRS reads - if not I can return for a full refund. Unfortunately I no longer need it to diagnose the airbag light, but since I'm pretty sure I know which connector caused the issue, I'm planning to unplug it and see if the scanner can identify it
