Passenger seat was fully reclined and now it won’t go up. I checked for anything in the way but doesn’t seem like there is something blocking it. What’s a good course to get this back up?

Oh. It can recline by the way but it just won’t got back. I have the back off and when I’m reclining I can hear the motor. But when trying to bring it up there is no sound or click.

Issue identified! It’s the seat switch for the power controls. I diagnosed this by figuring that if the motor is clicking when reclining but not bringing it up. It’s probably not gears or the motor. After looking at some schematics, I noticed that the switch was one unit and decided I needed to diagnose that.

I popped off the trim with the switch. Removed the passenger side, the one on the broken seat, then used the switch from the driver side and plugged it in. This worked and the seat was able to move. So looks like I’m going to order a new switch or try to find one at a junk yard.

I know this sounds crazy, but my 07 had the same issue and made me crazy. I was able to get the seat back upright after moving the seat all the way forward and trying the recline switch in different positions while moving the seat horizontally. When it was positioned about half to 2/3 towards the rear, the seat recline switch worked again. But I go nuts when someone hops in and reclines the seat… have to repeat the process every time. Likely either a faulty connector or sensor under the seat. Good luck!

Oh what!! I was thinking “no way” and then decided to put the bad switch back in and try what you mentioned and it worked!! For reference I had to go all the forward and then had to do the tilt all the way up.

mine did something like this, passenger side would only go backwards. swapped the drivers side into it and it worked. Just happed to plug the bad switch into the driver side and it worked fine over there. I ended up swapping the switch itself inside the little housing because they are a mirror of each other. been that way ever since.

Glad it helped! I was so glad I was able to get the seat upright again.

Literally two steps forward, one step back. GM needs to add this one to their trouble bulletins. Step one would be to direct the service tech to insert the CD with the Benny Hill theme song and play it while adjusting the seat.
