service 4wheel drive

My service 4 wheel drive msg just came on in my 03 Tahoe. I went into town shut the rig off, came back started the engine and the msg came on. Also noticed the led light on the 2hi switch is off and wont change between any of the other settings ( 2hi 4hi n 4low)

Any input where to start? Money is tight and dont realy want to spend any more than I have to.

I had the same problem so I changed out the module in the transfer case. That lasted about a month then I got the same issue again but this time I had alot of grinding noise coming from the front end. Just to check, I jacked up the front end and began tugging on the front end. The damm front hub/bearing was coming apart and basically the axle shaft was the only thing keeping the wheel from detaching most likely. I swapped out the bearing and axle shaft and the problems went away. Free troubleshooting tip, check the front end bearings, next step have a GM tech scan for any issues with that module or it could simply be the switch on the dash.

The selector switch sounds like it has gone south on you. Easy to pull out and replace. Dealer should charge about 79 bucks for it. Happened to me (00 LT 5.3L)/
