I just got a service reminder from my dealer saying that recall 12138 hasn't been completed. Anyone know what this is about? Is it safety related?

I had a letter in the mailbox on 11-26-12 concerning the possible transmission dipstick tube problem. The solution for most of us will be to install a foam sleeve around the tube to absorb engine vibration. Why do I forsee many years from now the foam falling apart, the tranmission dipstick tube fatiguing and fracturing, and me having to pay for the repair? :uhoh2:

I'll answer my own question: Because I'm Mr. Negative. :evillol:

They inspect the tranny dipstick tube, replace it if it's cracked, and install a foam sleeve to dampen vibration. There had been reports of hearing it vibrate. Not sure how many are cracked. Mine wasn't. I think my dad's (2010) was.
Before you go in you may want to call ahead and make sure they have the foam in stock, I had to wait a couple days.

AmazinglySmooth,

I do not believe this is a recall. Would you please PM your VIN, so I may look into this further for you?

I look forward to your reply.

It's most certainly a recall. Had the same issues on my Avy and Tahoe. The dealership actually aske me if I wanted them to take care of the recall on the dipstick when they were fixing my cracked dashboard...

Description: Transmission Dipstick Tube Fracture

I'm trading my 2006 in for a 2010 Denali and taking delivery this weekend. The "vehicle to be" is showing needing the same campaign....dealer had to order the parts.

My truck is included in that recall. My tube is not broken and since I don't trust dealers with my vehicle because they dented the bumper the last time I took it to them, I purchased the foam sleeve GM part # 24262134 for $3 online. Does it just slip over the top of the tube. can one of you that have the foam sleeve look at it and tell me where it goes ? Thanks

Slide the foam piece, to just below the expanded section at the top of the tube. Then, zip tie it in place.
