For the past few months I have been receiving a messagone on the driver information display:

---------Service--------
Side Detection System
-------------------------

The manual says to have it in for service if this message displays.

It has become much more frequent recently - for the past two weeks, it displays every time I start the vehicle. I've had in to the dealer three different times for it, each time they've said not to worry about it. They have not provided any other information.

Any ideas on what could be wrong?

Haven't seen that yet but if it's a new vehicle I wouldn't accept an answer of don't worry about it. Clearly something is wrong if you keep getting that error message, I would stay persistent with them.

I have had the same problem on and off for the past year. I had a similar response from the dealer. Everything seems to work fine, but the message some times pops up every few minutes. Then, I can go for months without seeing it. Not related to dirt/snow/ice. Already looked into those ideas. No consistency. No Answers, but I feel your frustration.

No Communication with the Right Side Object Detection/Blind Zone Sensor Module
May 6, 2013

Some 2013 Enclave, Traverse and Acadia models equipped with Side Obstacle Detection (RPO UFT) may show no data on the Tech 2 or it’s not possible to program the Right Side Object Detection/Blind Zone sensor module. DTC B101E Sym42 (Electronic Control Unit Software Calibration Not Programmed) may be set.

At this time, there is a Tech 2 software issue preventing communication or programming with the right Side Object Detection sensor module. Programming for both the left and right modules is the same.

Until the software issue is resolved, program both modules in the left position and then install one of them in the right position.

Diagnostic information for DTC B1010E and ID Info can be obtained using a 2013 Cadillac Escalade with navigation on the Tech 2. The module has no Data Display or Device Control support.

The Side Object Detection sensor modules (Fig.

can be swapped from left to right to aid in isolating the cause of a condition.

I love the truck, but the many electronic gremlins have me worried...I get alerts about the Front Camera system, the RainSense, vehicle "not in park" (when it obviously is) and won't start, had a dead battery for no apparent reason...makes me enjoy my old K5 and it's old school simplicity that much more.

Had the Yukon back at the dealer this past week. The Side Detection message has been on constantly for the past few months, and the rear liftgate kick sensor hasn't been working either. The dealer has had it for a week now, hoping to get it back today. After talking with GMC technical support, they said they needed to replace a wiring harness.

We'll see... I'll report back.

old thread, but Gpad, what did they do to fix your SBZDZ?

good read:
http://chevroletforum.com/forum/tahoe-suburban-25/side-blind-zone-system-unavailable-60918/

"
Diagnostic Aids
• The side object sensors are capable of detecting when they are blocked by mud, snow, or ice build up on the fascia. When a sensor is blocked, the driver information center (DIC) will display SIDE BLIND ZONE SYSTEM UNAVAILABLE. The SBZA system transitions back to the normal operating state when the blockage is removed. Bumper sticks, labels, and heavy rain storms may also cause this condition."
