Service Stability after replacing intermediate steering shaft

I replaced the intermediate steering shaft on my '06 Yukon. At the same time I tried to replace the bearing and couldnt get the new one to fit. I ended up putting the original back in. During the process the steering wheel moved (may have gone 360 degrees)? After the repair was complete the steering "clunk" is gone but I get "service stability" message on the dash. No codes in ECM. How can this be resolved? Do I have to get a new steering sensor with the spring and install it? Can this be reset with an advanced scanner?

I’m not entirely sure, but I think that would require a new clockspring. When I did mine, I used the seat belt to ensure the wheel didn’t move while I was swapping the shaft out. I remember that was critical to avoid damaging the clockspring, but not sure if that’s what would be required to correct your situation now. That’s my guess $0.02.

Did you dislodge the wiring connector or damage wiring while poking around the drivers side wheel well near frame which is where the suspension position feedback sensor is located?

I almost certain that you have destroyed your Steering wheel sensor. The steering wheel has to be locked in straight position and then sensor can be removed safely. Otherwise it looses center position and the only solution is to replace it FOLLOWING THE CORRECT GM PROCEDURE.

Thanks! So, essentially I will need a new sensor since this one is not clocked correctly and thus cannot be brought back to "0"

Correct? This is what I had originally assumed.

That pretty much happened on my '05. There isn't a way to reset it so yours may be the same and a replacement is the only way. Actually my Millennium 90 Scan Tool tells me it's not a resettable item on my year. Just make sure you buy an AC Delco genuine GM part. Dorman don't match well enough. I used a ton of tape to hold the steering wheel straight the second time.

Correct. Make sure you are following the correct install procedure, ie, Steering wheel in center position, then remove the pin, otherwise you'd ruin the new sensor as well. And it's not cheap. At all!
