I have a 1999 Yukon 2WD, Automatic. The shifter seems to have too much play in it, it`s kinda` sloppy. It won`t pull all the way down to L1....only goes to L2. Once it's in L2 there is about 4" of play in the gear shift. Is it a cable problem or slop in the gear selector mechanism itself ?? When I pull it from Park to reverse there is about 3 or 4 inches of slop in the gear selector......

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated !!!!

Thanks !!!!!

Adjusted the cable as described in the Haynes Manual this morning. Pulled the shifter through all gears two times and it worked flawlessly.....THEN it went back to the same thing as it was before.

Repeated the process a dozen times and got it to work right another time or two, but then it goes back to misbehaving.
Is there any adjustment on the cable itself ?? Is there a "mid cable" adjustment under the carpet where it comes in through the floorboard ??
