99 Coop, Yes i agree with you but,

His trans is working fine, im sure he DOESNT want to tare it out right now.

So a shift kit is a great addition to the trans right now. Im mnot building mine in my 2dr till it shows signs of slipping.

Later down the road if or when he needs/ wants to build it is the time beef it up.

I dont see where he said he was putting a supercharger or turbo on, so he will be fine for now. Although we know the 4L60e isnt the strongest, it can last if you dont beat on it and WILL last if you build it right.

like what was said already, the smoothness of the shift is the slipping of the clutch packs between shifts. the longer the time between shifts, the smoother the shift, but it's like slipping a clutch in a manual. longer, smoother shifts = more wear on the clutch packs, which means more wear material in the fluid, etc. shorter, crisper shifts = less wear on the clutches, but does jerk the driveline a bit when shifting. good shift kits (and i'm no expert, nor do i have an opinion on brands) find a happy medium between less tranny wear and not too much driveline jerk. a crisper shift is better in the long run for the tranny, less heat and wear and such. the average john q. public would probably find a hard, noticeable shift an irk, so the factory smooths out the shift, even though it is imparting more heat and wear. something like that. i got my '99 yukon second hand, and it has had something done to the tranny prior to me, as the 1-2 shift is much firmer than factory. don't know if it's got a mild kit or not, or maybe it's the vette servo. but a kit is a fairly cheap thing to do or have done, and can make you feel more 'connected' in the shifts, if that doesn't sound too cheesy. glad mine had it done, and after having something either servo'd or kitted, i'd probably do it to another vehicle in the future. if not for the wear/life of the tranny, just for the feeling of the mechanical gear change.

There is a unused circuit that would do the same thing if you could find it.

It is what became the “Tow Haul” or “performance” circuit, in different models.

It is a black wire in the transmission harness that if grounded, takes the trans pressure up to the preset amount.

I have mine set to 25% more pressure for the “performance mode”.

Not sure if OBD1 supports this option, but if you found someone that “mods” OBD1 ECM’s, they would know.

The “shift kits” do the same thing mechanically with different springs. The pressure is normally controlled, up and down, electronically and this unused circuit, just takes advantage of it.

Just something to think about……….:)

Unless you got it rebuilt w/o me knowing....

Say just wait till the very end.
I think the 80e is a poor chioce in your situation and most. Built 60e will due fine your not making or planning on making big power.

I have B&M and BB Tune tranny is ****!
If your droppong the Tranny for a shift kit....ever think about a different TQ Converter?

If you're going to do a shift kit, definitely get a Transgo and not B&M or TCI. B&M products are subpar...TCI makes a decent converter but Transgo's shift kit is far superior to anyone else's.

You said it's not slipping? So no flaring between shifts? If it's still sloppy after the Corvette servo and shift kit then you've got deeper issues....Your intermediate band may be worn.

ok it isn't totally sloppy , i just want a fast , firm shift. but i will take what u said into consideration if the kit does not help

i have a transgo kit and I LOVE IT!! way better then stock!

and i also have had the trans rebuilt, and i have upgraded Borg warner clutches. no problems and ive been running this setup for about a year now.
