Hello all,

I have a 2012 Yukon XL Denali (6.2L engine) and had the issue of the bushing on the bottom of the vehicle break apart today and caused the issue of not being able to shift. I picked up part number 14104 from o'reilly (https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/...hift-linkage-bushing/mtm0/14104?q=14104&pos=2).

It didn't take long to snap it in and link it back together. My problem is that this part seems to be not very secure while snapped in and doesn't take much force for it to come loose. The insert will stay put, but will disconnect from the shifter from not being very secure and has already popped off again not long after putting it in.

Has anyone found a good bushing on a similar year/engine vehicle they could recommend I buy and use instead?

Thank you in advance for any advice.

Same issue with mine. Anyone have luck with another fix?

I went the bushingfix.com route on my first attempt to fix this on my 2012, but it didn't work for me. The Dorman part linked above did the trick and has been fine ever since (about a year ago). My '07 had the Dorman part on it when I bought it, and it's been 30K miles and 4 years and it's still fine.

Some guys have drilled the shaft and put a tiny cotter pin in it with a washer for a 100% reliable repair, but with the Dorman part working great it's not worth the bother for me.

I have yet to experience this failure
Luckily it happened to mine in front of the house. The camper was attached to it, but at least I wasn't trying to band-aid the thing in a gas station lane with people stacked up behind me waiting.

What causes them to fail, just heat and age making them brittle?

Wondering if I should proactively replace mine or do the hole/cotter pin mod next time I'm doing an oil change

Yup. The material just deteriorates over time until it gives out and the cable slips off the lever. A small zip tie would likely be enough to get you home if it happened while you were driving it, but if it happened to your wife, it could be a significant issue.

I inspected mine a few months before it failed and it looked okay at the time, so it's hard to know when it's going to happen.
