good afternoon, I have a 95 Tahoe and for aslong as I have had it the shifter has been a lil loose like where it bolts up to the steering wheel, I saw a diagram of it and it looked like you have to take the column apart to tighten it up? cause there isn't any bolts visable or anything, not a big deal still goes into gear fine just the shifter handle isn't as tight as it should be, thanks for the help

haha, well after taking the hoe apart several times for this and that, it comes in handy. Im just waiting to meet someone around my town who thinks they "know" something about these tahoes/yukons and show em up a little bit ahha.

Atomic, when you say "pop" the steering column covers off, do you mean that the covers should come off by prying or something, or should I unscrew the torx headed screws on the underside of the steering column?

my shifter is loose just like the OP's...just need a little clarification.

Thanks!

1999 Tahoe shifter

I have a question, I have a shifter that now will not go into drive and is very sloppy. I know I have to replace the shifting mechanism on the column, my question is do I have to drop the steering column or can I just remove the plastics and get to it from there. I haven't gotten a Chiltons or Haynes yet, but I thought I would run it by you guys first.
