I am looking at a 150000 mile 2005 Z71, all highway miles. Never been used for anything but basic towing and a family wagon. It is in excellent shape. New shocks, struts, and brakes. It is fully loaded, and I love it. This is my first Tahoe, but I am really nervouse about buying a truck with so many miles on it. Any opinions on this car from Tahoe owners that have high milage, and can I expect to get many many more miles out of it if taken care of. Thans for the input.

How much?
150k is not high mileage really...these motors will go 300k easy but the transmissions & fuel pumps are weak spots. If the service was done & done on time than you should be ok.
Simple things like adding a vette servo will help the transmission life substantially.
Not really a big concern with 150k...I boight my 03 with 153k & it's been perfect other than the fuel pump I replaced a few weeks back.

About 10K. I know the seller, and pretty much all the history on the truck. Any other problem spots with the car. I am going to test drive it in a few days. Is there anything that I should listen for or look for in particular with this high of milage. I want to have this car for a long time, but not looking for a money pit (aside from gas) to keep it running for a long time. I don't plan on driving it hard, its just an extra vehicle for me.

10k is a good price. Pretty much from 03 on most of the bugs are worked out. Only noises to look out for would be grinding/bearing noise in the front hubs & an extra whiney fuel pump.
Other than that keep doing your routine maintenance & you should be good for quite a while.

Take it somewhere and pull the drain plugs. I just bought one and did my diff fluid this weekend. The front diff's magnetic drain plug had a nice sized chunk of metal stuck to it along with a ton of shavings. The front diff will sometimes leak from either end at the output shaft. If it's leaky then there's a chance there's a bit of extra wear and tear from having low fluid. My other issue is that the lights have an annoying kind of flickering that is hard to diagnose.

My kon had 196 on it when I sold it and it still ran like a badass. These LS based engines are pretty bullettproof if they're taken care of. I wouldn't be scared of buying one with 150k for the right price.

Thanks for all of the info everyone. I think it will be a great truck. No I don't have any pictures. Any more info from anyone would be much appreciated. The owner just had new shocks put on it. The dealer said that the differential was starting to leak a little when the owner had it inspected. Quoted him a very expensive repair. The owner then took it to his own mechanic that I GM certified, and he said that the cap was a little loose and starting to leak out of there. Tightened it up, problem fixed. I think. I hope. Pleas keep the opinions coming, they are very good for me to read before I buy. Thanks again.
Had an '01 Suburban with 242,000 on it when I traded it off. I bought it with 130,000 on it. Engine and trans were still going perfect. I changed the oil about every 5,000 miles and it still only used about a half quart. It needed shocks (autoride), tires, the A/C went out around 230,000 and it had a couple of small rust spots. It was a hell of a good vehicle and I just didn't want to put any money into it, but I'm sure it would have hit 300,000. The fuel pump went out around 215,000, the alternator around 200,000, and the front bearings around 185,000. Anything else was just minor or normal wear items.
How could you tell the bearings were going, probably a stupid question. Did you do a lot of off road driving, and were they expensive to fix? The only rust that this tahoe has is just on the front bumper, it is chrome or whatever derivative that they use these days. Does anyone know if that is easy to repair. Just some small speckled rust spots. probably from the salty winter roads. Thanks so much for the input. Keep it coming, the more I know to look for on my test drive the better. Any other high mileage Tahoe testimonies please!
