I got a tom tom hd. Works good just ib big cities it can get lost for a lil bit and then get on track. Might be because I don't update it lol

garmin sucks... When I went to dallas we had a garmin and it didn't work well n got us lost and yea I preffer my tom tom

I've had Garmins for years. Never had a problem. Never got me lost....even for a little bit.

Maybe your problem is more operator error.

I don't have an iphone, but the Google Maps app on Android phones has a really good navigation feature. I also have a Gamin, and just finished the installation of an OEM navigation radio in my truck. I love the OEM navigation more than the others. I like the Gamin a lot. I just don't use it anymore. It's very easy to use, and I love that it'll show you how fast you are going and what the speed limit is. As for my phone, the only problem I have is that I don't have a phone holder in my truck. I never to keep looking down. Plus, it drains the battery pretty fast. But, I can charge it and plug it into the radio simultaneously. It will talk through the speakers, but the radio must be on auxiliary. That means no music unless I use the media player app at the same time. The directions will dim the music automatically so that I can hear the navigation instructions.

As for navigation problems, I have found user error is normally my problem. I just go into the menu or options and change the settings for how I want the route to take me.

I already have the navigation unit in my Tahoe but bought a unit for my wife's car. I went to Best Buy and looked at Magellen, Tom Tom and Garmin. I Liked the Garmin the best. I don't remember exactly why but probably for ease of use. My wife has trouble even using a TV remote.:doh2:

I also got this portable friction mount. http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-Portab...2MU4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1337015353&sr=8-1 Easy to use and remove to prevent someone from stealing the unit and surprisingly sturdy. Also great reviews.

I went witha TomTom Via 1530. It has a 5" screen, live traffic updates and free map updates for life. Got it at Costco. Originally had some software issues but the manufacturer offered a downloadable patch which in turn fixed everything. Have been using it now for about a year with no issues. Thumbs up on this one.

I like Google Maps on my Android phone, but if you don't have a signal, you don't have a map. Remote areas meant using satellite navigation to save the day.

Your phone works off GPS same as the others if I am not mistaken.

That makes sense, since it clearly tells me it enables GPS satellites when using Google Maps. But losing the cell signal seems to override the Maps function and the app goes into a sort of lock down mode(two different phone models). I know we all stood around staring at it, cursing T-Mobile, haha.

It must be a T-Mobile thing because Verizon doesn't do it.
