You only need additional batteries for RESERVE. If you intend on running things when the car is off, the more batteries the longer you can do it (assuming they are charged).
The alternator generates the power. Batteries condition the power (level voltage drop to a degree) if the alternator can't keep up -- part of them being... a power reserve.
For a radio and speakers and even a couple of amps, one battery is fine with your alternator... unless you plan on running all of that with the car off.
