My side view mirrors do not retract and the driver's side mirror does not move freely when I adjust it. So I have two options, 1. try to repair them; or 2. replace them. So here are my questions for the forum:

1. I saw a YouTube video on repairing the mirrors and it looked tool intensive (requiring specialized tools). Would you agree with that or is it fairly simple to repair the retracting mechanism and the adjustment mechanism?

2. All the replacement mirrors I find (outside the dealership who I haven't been to yet) have the same functions as the original EXCEPT for the light sensitivity. I was curious if I could just take the old mirror off the old unit and install it on the new unit. Although, I think I could switch them out I don't think the light sensitivity would continue to work. Any thoughts?

I know nothing about repairing mirrors, but I know quite abit about replacing them. When u say light sensitivity in assuming you mean auto dimming, so just find a set that has that feature, usually its drivers side only. Secondly I would recommend using gm mirrors rather than aftermarket. The aftermarket ones tend to shake alot at higher speeds. U can find these mirrors all over the place, Craigslist, eBay etc. 2007.5-2013 Tahoes , suburbans, yukons, sierras and silverados all used the same mirrors
lastly, yes it is possible to change out just the glass.
hope this helps
